CHAPTER TWO
2.1 MUSIC MAGAZINE
REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE
Music magazines
are magazines dedicated to music and its culture. They typically include music
news, interviews, photos, essays, music and concert reviews and some include
cover mounts. The cover mounts can be in the form of free album, compilation of
music from various artists, and other stuffs. thefreedictionary.com, 2011.
Music
magazines such as Vibe, Spin, Blender and Rolling Stone have been decreasing in
sales. The readership and advertising and music magazines are in a vulnerable
state. One of the main reasons is internet. Music lovers prefer to read reviews
in blogs and message boards or even download the music themselves rather than
reading them in printed magazines. Another reason is the craze of online social
networks which took over the service that once was offered by music magazines-the
connection. Weiner, 2009.
One
of the ways to save the music magazine industry is by creating an alternative
aesthetic. Incorporating desktop publishing typeset design and fanzine looks
might work, but designers should make sure it is readable. Music magazine
industry needs to give the readers they are compelled to buy for its aesthetic
value. Brannon, 2009.
